WHY ARE WE MERGING?
Mergers are happening throughout youth soccer in the state. It is important to find an organization that shares a common set of values and philosophies. Utah Arsenal/Utah FC have common philosophy on how they want to develop players, run a club, provide a broad range of playing opportunities, etc. When two organizations are so closely aligned in how they approach youth soccer – in makes sense to combine resources and provide a broader opportunity for players.
First, the collective strength of combining allows us to provide more soccer opportunities for players at all levels. We have the ability to put more “like” players with “like” players, creating a better experience for all. Second, the larger size will allow the Club to provide a soccer structure that can touch more players and teams. This soccer structure will help the Club to attract and retain top coaching and training staff. Third, the consolidation of the administration of the Club will allow the appropriate resources reach down to each individual players.
WHAT IS THE TIMELINE AND WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR ME NOW THE REST OF SPRING?
Nothing will change for players, families, coaches, and organizations as we enter the Spring competition season. As we approach tryouts we will provide regular updates to membership regarding progress and key information.
WHY IS IT BENEFIT TO BE A LARGER CLUB?
Multiple playing level options within the same club
Teams are less likely to break apart
Access to resources (fields, coaches, financial aid, etc.)
Age group Directors will cover 12 - 15 teams.
Still have Regions to play in (Provo, Lehi, Cedar Hills, etc.
Will be able to retain and attract coaches and players
WHAT IS THE ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE OF THE CLUB?
Beginning with the 2018-19 Soccer Year, all youth club players U7 - U19 will be registered with UYSA under Utah Arsenal FC.
Oversight and day to day management of the program is the responsibility of UAFC, the UAFC Board, Directors and Administrative Staff. Current Utah Arsenal SC, Utah FC, and Stars United Directors and Coordinators will be integrated into the new program as we progress with the development of the new club structure.
We will have a 9 member board - The board will consist of 9-people. Comprising Utah Arsenal, Utah FC, and Stars United. Positions will be President, Vice President (2), Area Directors (3), Community Relations, Treasurer, and Club Administrator/Secretary.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THIS MERGER?
A few initial benefits are:
Providing a larger player pool which allows for more opportunities for more players of all levels to play with “like” players.
Larger coaching pool which will allow us to provide more and better training/development opportunities.
Natural synergies between the organizations which provide for efficiencies in administration, marketing, finance, and facilities.
More internal capacity with more people to do the work.
More coaching education opportunities.
Attract additional talented coaches and players to our club.
Increased purchasing power for tournaments, equipment, etc.
Help continue serving players in Lehi area but also now all of Utah County
Have access to more fields to provide better opportunities for games and training
HOW WILL TEAMS BE FORMED?
Teams will be formed similar to how they have been formed at each age level previously, player evaluation/tryouts in May (U8 and above).
X-League U8 - U10 teams will be local to their communities/Regions with players placed on teams.
U11 - U19 teams will be formed off the basis of Premier Teams, and then filter down to local regionalized teams.
We will form Premier teams comprised of players from all regions to compete at higher levels of play. These teams will be based across all regions.
HOW MANY TEAMS WILL THERE BE?
The number of teams in each age group will be based on overall numbers in that given age group. Our goal is for all players to have a place to play at their best skill level.
We are committed to utilizing current facilities in all regions. Combined, we have use of some of the nicest fields in Utah; Sertoma Park, Olympic Park, and Skyridge High School.
WHERE WILL WE PRACTICE AND PLAY GAMES?
WHO WILL COACH THE TEAMS?
We are first committed to working with and utilizing the existing coaching staffs that are already in place. We are however evaluating every team and coach to determine what is best for the team, coach, and club. We will have the coaching assignments out as soon as we can. We don’t foresee massive coaching changes.
HOW ARE TRYOUTS ORGANIZED?
For U8 - U10 we will have regionalized tryouts - we want to form teams in these young age groups and keep them in their regions
For U11 - U19 each age group will have one tryout in Lehi and one Tryout in Vineyard. We have done this to benefit everyone that is part of our Utah County Club. We feel that it is fair to ask players to travel for 1 tryout out of their region just like a game.
From there we will form teams based on Premier and then Select. Each player will be given the opportunity to tryout for all the teams in their age group. Players will be selected on a Premier basis first and then filtered out to be put with players in their region based on their level of play.
WHAT ARE THE FEES?
We are currently working through our projection & budget process. We have completed our initial phase of projection/counts & fee analysis. Once we are complete with all phases of this process, we will provide families with the fee structure.
WILL UTAH INVITATIONAL AND THE COLLEGE PREP PROGRAM STILL EXIST?
Yes. We will continue to run both of the programs. The Utah Invitational will now be one of the largest and most competitive Utah County tournaments.
Our college prep program will be offered to every 8th - 12th grade player in the club at no extra cost.
*The college ID camp will come at an extra cost.
WILL THERE BE A DIFFERENT NAME?
Yes, there will be a rebranding of the club to create a sense of ownership for all members. We will be called Utah Arsenal FC or (UAFC)
HOW ARE WE GOING TO BE FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE?
We have put massive checks and balances in place to make sure that we are financially sound and responsible!
WILL THERE BE NEW UNIFORMS?
Yes, in order to create a distinct, inclusive club with a focus on all players and communities, new uniforms will be implemented for the 2018-19 Soccer year.
